Made famous by the introduction of televised events and their astronomical winnings, but respected above all else for their talents at the poker table, the legends and stars of poker described in this section (and there are many more!) deserve to be admired by every poker player.
The first player to win more than a million dollars in a tournament, Doyle Brunson is the author of the book “How I Won a Million Dollars Playing Poker”, which is still considered to be the poker “Bible”. Doyle Brunson has twice been world champion and has won more than ten WSOP tournaments! Now 73 years old, he’s still going strong and regularly makes it to the final table in the major tournaments.
World champion in 1988 and 1989, he appears in the film “Rounders” by John Dahl with Matt Damon and Edward Norton.
At just 24 year old, Phil became the youngest world champion of all time. Famous for having one of the most unpredicatable and unsettling playing styles, Phil has won 9 WSOP titles and earned more than 5 million dollars in winnings during his career.
Chris Moneymaker became the first online poker player to win the World Championship. In 2003, he paid just 39 dollars to register for a satellite tournamment in order to earn the right to take part in the WSOP World Championship. He won this tournament and followed it up by winning the World Championships and the 2.5 million dollars reserved for the winner!
Joe Hachem started out playing online poker. He won the WSOP World Championship and more than 7.5 million dollars in 2005!
