Card Ranking and Combinations: Rules of the Game

Poker is a game for 2 to 10 players. Each player has the same aim: to win the “pot” consisting of the sum total of the different bets made by the players during the game. There are two ways to win the pot: either you have to form the best hand or you can bluff, in other words, you have to outwit your opponents by convincing them that you hold the best hand. Having the best hand means holding the strongest combination of cards.

Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards which are ranked in the traditional way. From lowest to highest, the card ranking is as follows:

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King y Ace

The same ranking of poker hands is used in all types of poker. Here is the complete ranking of poker hands, from highest to lowest:

Royal Flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, all of the same suit
Straight Flush: 5 cards of the same suit in sequence
Four of a Kind: 4 cards of the same rank (numerical value)
Full House: A three of a kind and a pair (e.g. 8, 8, 8, 3, 3).
If two players have full houses, the one with the better three of a kind wins.

If two players have flushes, the one with the highest card wins.
Straight: 5 cards of different suits in sequence (e.g. Ace,2,3,4,5)
